Projet Capes-Cofecub MA 957/20
Presentation of the current research carried out in Biomedical Engineering at the Centre for Innovation and Technology Assessment in Health (Federal University of Uberlândia, Brazil).
Prof. Adriano de Oliveira Andrade, PhD, Federal University of Uberlândia, Head of the Postgraduate Program in Biomedical Engineering
In this lecture, Prof Eduardo Naves head of the Assistive Technology Lab (NTA) from the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU) in Brazil will present a panorama of the research in rehabilitation and assistive technologies for mobility and communication from his lab.
Prof. Eduardo Naves is PhD in Biomedical Engineering and fellow of The Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development.
The diagnosis and evaluation of the severity of Parkinson's disease (PD) is a task that has been performed through clinical evaluation and use of subjective scales. In this presentation, it will be shown alternative ways to measure some of the symptoms of PD, as well as computer tools to help during the assessment of the disease.
Fábio Henrique M. Oliveira has PhD in Electrical Engineering (with an emphasis on Biomedical Engineering, 2020) which won the SBEB-Boston Scientific award for innovation in Biomedical Engineering for the SUS in the Doctoral Thesis category in 2021. In 2018, he joined the Federal Institute of Brasília (IFB) as a professor where he works to date. He coordinated / coordinates innovative technological research and development projects supported by funding agencies such as FAPDF, MEC, among others. He is an associate member of the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering (SBEB).
We have developed, implemented, and evaluated a new training protocol that involves a user centered Virtual Reality (VR) based serious game for treating upper limbs of chronic post-stroke individuals. The protocol provided an increase in ROM, an improvement of QOL, and a reduction in spasticity. Furthermore, the intervention did not have an adverse effect, had a high degree of adherence, and enabled these individuals to undergo upper limb training.
Isabela Alves Marques is graduated in Physical Education at the Federal University of Uberlandia (Brazil). Specialist in Clinical Physiology and Training for Special Groups. PhD in Science from Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU, Brazil) in 2019. Currently, she is in post doctorate at Federal University of Uberlandia and in Université de Lorraine.
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder that impairs motor function and cognitive and motivational systems. As the disease has no cure, it is necessary that individuals perform movement rehabilitation. For this purpose, a serious game for hand and wrist rehabilitation in a virtual environment, called RehaBEElitation, has been developed.
